American Hurricanes

The recent hurricanes in America, Katrina and Rita, remind me just how lucky I am to work in London. We have to deal with the occasional bombings, which are terrible and devastating enough, both for victims, but also for the emergency service workers.

But it's nothing compared to the devastation faced by the emergency services in New Orleans and Texas. People have lost their homes, their families, are having to run the gauntlet of disease and looters, and the emergency service workers, be it police, fire and ambulance workers, are putting the welfare of those they serve above their own losses.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected, but especially to the emergency workers who are doing an amazing job the best they can under the circumstances, and not getting much back in the way of thanks.

Stay safe out there!
